THE WIDE WORLD OF
CONTENT
From YouTube to videos on websites like CNN to movies you can rent, download and play on your PC
from services like Netflix. New services like Hulu make TV programming available
on the web, and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing marked the first time that unprecedented amounts of
coverage became available on the web. We can expect this trend to continue and grow. It's great to
be able to see this kind of content on your large screen HDTV and it's all available with a PC and a
broadband connection.
These days, content is everywhere...
Of course, you can also build your personal media library by ripping your own content as discussed
above. Then you can instantly put together custom playlists by just dragging and dropping.
Finally, a PC makes a great slide projector for all of those digital photos you
have on your hard drive. Now you can bore your guests in high definition with
those pictures of Aunt Mabel and the gang, and you never have to worry
about the bulb burning out or getting fingerprints on the photos.
BREAK OUT THE
POPCORN
So, sit back, relax and enjoy fantastic
audio and video from perhaps the
most versatile entertainment device
ever. You may also want to pull out
one of those recipes you have stored
on there and make something tasty
to go along with the show.
Just a few years ago, PCs were not reliable devices for
playing DVDs and video on the web meant pixilated, postage
playing pictures at low frame rates.
What's more, an entertainment PC configured roughly as
described here should continue to provide value and support
the latest media formats for at least the next five years or so.
That's not a bad investment.
Today, with abundant processor power,
high performance graphics and audio
systems high ubiquitous broadband Internet
connections, the PC can finally take its
place as a key source of high quality and
diverse entertainment.
